The aeronautical authorities of mainland China, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR met on 08 & 09 December 2016 to discuss the coordination of air traffic management in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) Region and agreed to follow the principle of joint development for their future work.
The two-day meeting was held in Changsha, Hunan commencing yesterday. The three parties continued to discuss among themselves on the present operations of air traffic management in the Region as well as its future development. During the discussions, the Macao delegation presented to the mainland and Hong Kong authorities about the proposal to optimize the procedures for the approach from the North to the South at Macau International Airport (i.e. the optimization of the approach procedures at Runway 16). The three parties agreed to put this proposal as an agenda item to be discussed thoroughly and followed up in the following meetings held by the technical working group. In addition, as the general guideline for successive work in the PRD’s air traffic management, the three sides agreed to continually work together in a harmonized manner of which all sides will win, devise planning in consideration of all parties, and move forward in joint development.
In 2004, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (HKCAD) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Macao SAR (AACM) set up a regular-meeting mechanism with the establishment of a supervisory working group and a technical working group to study on the enhanced coordination of air traffic management in the PRD Region and exchange views and opinions on the operations. In May this year in Hong Kong, the three authorities signed the agreement on enhancing air traffic management cooperation in the Pearl River Delta Region with the aim of maintaining closer ties with each other in their coordination work. Upon the invitation of AACM and following the signing in Hong Kong, CAAC paid a visit to Macao to exchange with the local aviation industry on how the air transport market between mainland China and Macao can further be enhanced.
