Safety is the top priority in the air transport industry. All aviation operators must strictly adhere to local aviation regulations and the standards and recommended practices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to ensure operational safety.
For the airport operators and the airlines registered in Macao, we conduct scheduled and non-scheduled inspections and audits. If any non-compliance is found, we require operators to take corrective actions. Additionally, through the "Mandatory Occurrence Reporting System" and the "Macao Confidential Aviation Reporting System", we continuously collect and analyze safety data; we also hold regular safety management systems meetings with the industry players to understand their safety operations more deeply.
Regarding the operations of foreign airlines in Macao, we conduct regular ramp inspections on them to ensure that their flights meet international aviation standards.
To ensure the safety of the environment surrounding Macau International Airport, we have been committed to monitoring and managing wildlife in the vicinity since the airport began operations, aiming to reduce the potential threat to aviation safety. Since the establishment the Airport Wildlife Committee in 2015, the group has held regular meetings to assess the risk of bird strikes within the airport and to review the effectiveness of the measures implemented by the airport concessionaire (CAM). The measures include installing remote sonic bird deterrents, using handheld smoke bird deterrent guns and laser bird deterrents, increasing the frequency of wildlife patrols on the runway artificial islands, and analyzing the types and numbers of birds observed.
For the runway safety, CAM conducts quarterly skid resistance data tests and arranges rubber removal operations based on the results to ensure the safe operations. Furthermore, the AACM has established height restrictions for buildings surrounding the airport and the flight protection zones, with some buildings equipped with obstacle warning lights to enhance safety alerts.
In light of the recent aviation safety incidents in other regions, the AACM will continue to closely monitor the progress of the investigations, as well as collect and analyze those safety data, ensuring that the aviation safety is maintained in Macao.
